Vertical Tasting 

This is a tasting that involves the same wine from the same Chateau (i.e. Dom Perignon 1999,1996,1993 etc.) The aim to highlight the differences of vintage and stages of maturity.

Horizontal Tasting 

Horizontals basically involves a tasting that has a common vintage (i.e. All 2000 vintages).

To really make it worth while it helps, but isn't essential, to keep a common area or grape varierty to make a comparison valid.
