Billecart Salmon was founded in 1818 with the marriage of Nicolas Francois Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon. The house is still under the ownership of the original founding family and has access to 35 crus across the region, for which they control every stage of the production. During 1999, a tasting in Sweden took place to determine which was the greatest Champagne of the millennium. All the major marques took part, and the jury voted the 1959 Cuvee Nicolas Francois Billecart as the overall winner. The 1961 came second. The wines have great elegance.
